Postdoctoral Researcher

The Burress Lab is not currently recruiting a postdoctoral researcher; however, I am always interested in supporting applicants for the NSF prfb (or other sources of external funding) for those with a background in my area of research and an interest in joining my lab.

Prospective Graduate Students

I am currently recruiting a graduate student (Ph.D. or M.S.) to start Fall 2025. I am especially interested in prospective students interested in studying the macroevolution, functional morphology, phylogenetics, and/or population genetics of Neotropical cichlids or southeastern U.S. fishes. The College and Department have a strong history of supporting international students and applicants from underrepresented groups. Current (Fall '24) Teaching Assistantship pay is $28,872/year (with full tuition waiver), but fellowships and expanded support are also available for competitive applicants. Prospective applicants are encouraged to review my Research and Publications pages as well as the Department of Biological Sciences webpage. The University of Alabama has rolling admission, but the 'priority deadline' is December 10. UA also tends to have a 'free application' week, which for the current cycle is October 7-11, 2024. Students from underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to apply. Those interested in joining my lab should email their (i) curriculum vitae, (ii) a brief cover letter describing their research interests and experience, and (iii) names and contact information of two references to Dr. Edward Burress (edburress'at'ua'dot'edu). Please reach out with any questions.

Prospective Undergraduate Students

There are also opportunities for undergraduates to work in the lab. Interested students should contact me at the email above.
